Patriotism: is the knowledge that we live in the best country on earth, because we were born here. Patriotism is also the willingness to die for the political and religious beliefs beliefs of our country--because the bureaucracy, circulated propaganda, and politicians say so--it is the only system we have ever lived with--and because "you know"' "we are right".
Well, I know--through my education in school; but, also through some study of world history--that--we owe much of it (alphabet, basis of architecture democracy culinary arts science the judicial system, coffee, grains, introduction of the "Steel Age", language, mathematics, naval navigation, oils, spices, sugar, all to the countries of Asia and the Middle-East.
I also "know" that these "emerging" "third world" economies are all thousands of years older than the "Western World"--they still exist--and they are all still collectively very, very powerful. The problem faced by all of these countries is not the need for political reform, nor is it the need for dictatorship, censure-ship, ownership, or government by a foreign country or coalition of foreign countries. The major problems--perhaps the only problems they face is the same one we must face in all parts of the word. The problems ARE, the excessive, ever and rapidly increasing; HUMAN population and the equally rapid decline of food, water, and other necessities of survival.
It is now estimated that 20% of the human population resides in India and that in a very few years India will replace China as the most populous nation in the world (China (very wisely--although this may be a reason so many of the Chinese are emigrating to other countries) has enforced a law limiting the number of births allowed per family).
The Western World might want to give second thought to the knowledge that "we are right", while there is still time to do so.
China is the most powerful nation there ever was, is, and quite likely ever will be. But, we Canadians, all peoples of the "Americas", all peoples of the "New World" had a "golden opportunity"--an opportunity in a land rich in beauty and all the necessities of life. Unexploited and not over populated. A land of limited GREED, unpolluted, unspoiled--Mother Nature's Land.
We could have, should have, perhaps to some extent, we still can; lead the world. Lead in peaceful, responsible, sustainable liveability; uncorrupted by-- the need to control or dictate, greed, or the pursuit of world dominance. With out the need to insist--demand at the threat of extermination-- that everyone and everything be exactly the same with the same beliefs, following the same "PATHWAY"--what's the full Western name, pathway to peace-- in life.
The secret of Nature's world is in sharing. Everything contributes to the whole and everything has it's own niche. Although it was and is viewed as a serious threat by the "Western World"; sharing is the idea behind true communism. But then, the very idea of having to share, without the certainty of monetary gain, has always been seen as a serious threat, by many Europeans, and in the "New World".
This blog is dedicated in tribute to our ancestors and future heirs. In many instances, it was our parents, grandparents, great-grand parents, great-great-grandparents who had the vision to build Canada and keep it Canadian. I have great respect for heritage and tradition. Were it not for our ancestral heritage, we would not exist. Our heirs enable us to live on into the future. I do believe however, that it is time we all accept the fact that born in Canada, we are all equally Canadian.
